DIY Homemade Fly Trap 🪰 | Easy Chemical-Free Fly Control

If flies are becoming a problem in your kitchen, patio, or garden, try this simple homemade fly trap. It uses a few inexpensive ingredients and a recycled plastic bottle to create an easy DIY trap.

What You’ll Need 120 ml hot water 120 ml sugar 60 ml vinegar 1 teaspoon salt 1 empty 1.5–2 litre plastic bottle How to Make the Fly Trap

1. Prepare the bottle
Cut the plastic bottle about one-third of the way down from the top.

2. Create the funnel
Turn the top section upside down and place it inside the bottom section, creating a funnel-like opening.

3. Make the attractant mixture
Mix the hot water, sugar, vinegar, and salt in a bowl. Stir until the sugar dissolves.

4. Add the mixture
Pour the prepared mixture into the bottom of the bottle.

5. Place the trap
Put the trap in an area where flies are frequently seen. The smell of the mixture can attract flies into the bottle, while the funnel design makes it difficult for them to escape.

How Often Should You Change It?

Replace the mixture every few days or whenever it becomes less effective. Keep the trap away from children and pets and dispose of the contents hygienically.

Why Try This DIY Fly Trap?

It is inexpensive, easy to prepare, and makes use of an old plastic bottle. It can be useful around areas where flies are a nuisance, such as kitchens, patios, and gardens.

Tip: Along with a trap, keep food covered, clean spills promptly, empty rubbish regularly, and keep doors and windows screened where possible.
