There are options today available in market for softening fabric, but it always leaves clothes and towels stiff and scratchy. And we usually end up putting them in the dryer for a few minutes just to fluff them up so now with these methods you can easily make all- natural fabric softener in your home.
Here I am sharing the ways you can choose any of them as your convenience one recipe for natural fabric softeners. These recipes use all-natural, easily found ingredients like baking soda, vinegar, salt, and essential oils to leave laundry luxuriously soft and smelling fresh.
Vinegar Fabric Softener
Our first natural fabric softener recipe is the simplest of all, requiring just two ingredients. Vinegar works great during the rinse cycle along with few drops of essential oil for a wonderful scent. It is a natural fabric softener and also removes soap residue and even acts as an antibacterial and antimicrobial agent.
Ingredients:
1 Cup Vinegar
10-15 Drops Essential oils

Add 10 to 15 drops of essential oils (For your choice).
Close the spray bottle directly and shake to mix.
Lightly spritz laundry before starting the dryer.
Baking Soda and Epsom salt Fabric Softener
Our second natural fabric softener uses Epsom salts and baking soda to create a dry fabric softener that can be added into your washing machine. Epsom salt helps with softening their laundry even more when adding with baking soda where as Adding baking soda to the wash cycle which will also prevent the lint from sticking to the cloths.
Note: If you can’t find Epsom salts, coarse sea salt can be used in a pinch.
Ingredients:
1 cup Epsom salts
¼ cup Baking soda
10-15 drops Essential oils
Method:
In a container add Epsom salts and baking soda together and mix well.
Now add 10 to 15 drops of essential oils
Seal container and shake to mix.
Usage:
To use this in laundry, simply add 1-2 Tablespoons to each load along with your choice of laundry detergent.
For top-loaders, you can add the Epsom salt at the very beginning of the cycle, before you put the clothes in.
For front-loaders, you can add the Epsom salt to the detergent dispenser.
Vinegar & Baking Soda Fabric Softener
Baking soda is a member of the salt family. Combination of baking soda and vinegar not only makes the clothes soft but also super clean. Vinegar strips soap and residue from clothing and also helps to soften hard water. Whereas adding few drops of essential oil to the baking soda to make your clothes smell nice and fresh.
If you prefer a liquid softener for your washer, this is a good alternative to the Epsom salt and baking soda recipe.
Ingredients:
500 ml Warm water
1 cup Baking soda
1 cup white Vinegar
20-25 drops Essential oils
Method:
In a bowl, add 500ml warm water and 1 cup baking soda.
Once water and baking soda are mixed together
Add in 1 cup of white distilled vinegar and let the effervescence subside.
Note: There should be two parts water to one part each of baking soda and vinegar.
Add in 20 drops of essential oil of your choice and stir.
Use 1/4 cup of this fabric softener during the rinse cycle for a tub-full of clothes.
